How Early Should You Book a Halloween Bounce House? Windows by Event Type
Book your Halloween bounce house rental 2-8 weeks ahead, depending on your party type. Here's the booking window for each.
You've picked the date, sent the group text and pictured a pumpkin bounce house glowing on the lawn. Then the rental site shows that Saturday as sold out. In short: a weeknight or early-October backyard party usually needs 2 to 4 weeks' notice. A Saturday party that wants a themed house needs 4 to 6 weeks. The last two weekends of October need 6 to 8 weeks, and so does Halloween itself in years when it falls on a weekend. Trunk-or-treats, school carnivals and church festivals should book in July or August. Below are the reasons for each window, what rentals cost and what to check before you pay a deposit.
Book this far ahead
Rental companies don't agree on a single number. Their advice falls into four windows, depending on the kind of event:
- Weeknight or early-October backyard party: 2 to 4 weeks. Bounce and Co. in Orange County recommends 2 to 4 weeks from April through October. Backyard Adventure Rentals in Delaware says at least 2 to 3 weeks for October weekends. Kangaroo Bounce Party in Las Vegas says a single weekday rental can often be booked about a week out, even in peak season.
- Saturday backyard party with a Halloween-themed house: 4 to 6 weeks. That's what Party Go Round in Cincinnati recommends for Halloween bookings. It also says weekday events are easier to book on short notice. Bounce Party of Tampa says 3 to 4 weeks for September through November.
- The last two October weekends, or a weekend Halloween: 6 to 8 weeks. Kangaroo Bounce Party puts Halloween with Christmas and the Fourth of July at 6 to 8 weeks. Its usual advice for other events is 3 to 5 weeks.
- Multi-unit trunk-or-treat, school carnival or church festival: July or August. Jumper Bee in Dallas–Fort Worth says fixed-date trunk-or-treats and fall festivals should reserve in those months.
The calendar makes this matter. Halloween 2026 falls on Saturday, October 31, and Halloween 2027 falls on Sunday, October 31. For 2027, the 6-to-8-week window starts in early September.
These windows are what operators recommend. They aren't a nationwide measure of when units sell out, and local demand varies.
Why those October weekends disappear
Backyard parties, trunk-or-treats, school carnivals, church festivals and HOA block parties all want the same Saturdays. Jump Around Party Rentals in Greater Austin tells HOAs to book October events in August for this reason. It adds that multi-unit orders fill first. Each company also owns only a few pumpkin and haunted units, so the themed inventory runs out quickly.
Operators agree on which weekends go first:
- Party Go Round says the last two weekends before Halloween fill first.
- Jumper Bee calls October its busiest month. It says most of its October inventory is reserved by late August, and the final two weekends usually book out by late August or early September.
- Jump Around calls the weekend before Halloween the most competitive booking date of the fall. Mid-October trunk-or-treat weekends and school-carnival weekends fill weeks ahead.
- A Perfect Party Rental in the Phoenix area wrote in April 2026 that with Halloween on a weekend, many of the most-requested fall items are reserved by mid-September.
When Halloween falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the holiday lands on the busiest rental day of the week. In 2026 and 2027, the parties that would normally spread across the week are competing for the same weekend.
What the deposit locks in, and what it doesn't
A deposit holds your date. It doesn't guarantee a lower price.
Pricing: Kangaroo Bounce Party charges the same rate four weeks out or four days out, as long as the unit is free. Jumper Bee adds a modest seasonal premium on peak October weekends but doesn't publish the percentage. Jump Around prints base rates and says the price can change for peak dates, delivery distance or the setup surface. Tax is extra.
Deposits vary: - Jump Around takes 25%. - Inflatable Party Magic in Texas takes 15% or $50, whichever is greater. - Bounce N Beyond takes a $100 deposit that isn't refunded.
Holiday cancellation terms are often stricter than for an ordinary birthday: - Arizona Bounce Around makes 25% nonrefundable once you sign. On a holiday booking, cancelling at 30 days still costs 25%, and cancelling inside 30 days costs the full price. Its standard schedule only reaches the full price inside 6 days. - Bounce On Us, near Brockton, Massachusetts, charges nothing at 30 days or more on a holiday and the full price inside 30 days. It also has a $250 Halloween minimum order. - BDJ Party Rentals treats Halloween as a holiday. If you cancel a holiday booking more than 30 days out for a reason other than weather, it refunds everything except a 3.5% processing fee.
Pick the unit for the party you're actually throwing
A backyard party needs one dry bounce house or a small combo. A trunk-or-treat or festival needs at least two units, one for little kids and one for older kids, because the CPSC says children who jump together should be about the same age and size.
Prices as of October 2026:
- Jump Around (Austin): Halloween bounce house $245, Halloween combo $355, pumpkin bounce house $355, pumpkin combo $425, Mechanical Pumpkin $1,495, 96-foot Halloween obstacle course $1,595, Halloween maze or Wipeout $1,895. The pumpkin units are rated for ages 3 and up, the full combo for 6 and up, and the maze and Wipeout for 8 and up. The Wipeout and Mechanical Pumpkin need an operator. - Party Go Round (Cincinnati), 6-hour rentals: - Jumpin' Jack-O'-Lantern and Haunted House from $300 each, Zombie Apocalypse combo from $350, Graveyard Gauntlet obstacle course from $425, corn maze from $600. - Trunk-or-Treat package: $900, compared with $1,000 booked separately. It includes a haunted house, a jack-o'-lantern house, a unit for ages 2 to 8, delivery, setup and takedown. - Fall Festival package: $1,300, compared with $1,450. - Family First Events and Rentals (Fort Myers): a 13-by-13 Jack-O'-Lantern house at $230 for up to 12 hours or $290 for up to 24. Delivery is calculated at checkout.
For comparison, a Bounce House Dude guide from 2026 puts a standard house at $150 to $300 for 4 to 8 hours. The themed showpieces cost several times that.
Two more choices matter in October:
- Run it dry. Both Jump Around and Party Go Round point cooler-weather events to dry Halloween combos.
- Plan for dark. Party Go Round says its most popular Halloween upgrade is the overnight hold, at 20% over the 6-hour base, because parties run into the evening.
Make sure the yard or the parking lot can take it
Space: Jump Around wants at least 15 by 15 feet of clear, flat ground for a 13-by-13 house, including room for stakes. A combo with a slide needs 15 by 20 feet. The CPSC says to keep the unit away from tree branches, power lines and fences.
Power: The blower runs the whole time the house is up. - Plan on a 110-volt outlet within 50 feet, ideally on its own 20-amp circuit. - If you need a cord, it should be a 12-gauge outdoor cord. - PartyTime Event Rentals says anything farther than 50 feet needs a generator, not a longer cord. - The CPSC's 2015 bulletin says the blower should be on a ground-fault circuit interrupter (GFCI).
Anchoring: - Grass: stakes are the usual backyard setup. The CPSC's 2015 bulletin calls for straight stakes at least 18 inches long in hard soil, with at least 75% of the stake in the ground. - Parking lot: Some companies won't accept sandbags in place of stakes, so a church or school lot needs a company that anchors on pavement. Confirm that before you book.
Paperwork for venues: Jumper Bee says parks, schools, churches and HOAs often require a certificate of insurance. Jump Around and Party Go Round issue one for free. Some local rules are stricter. In Texas, for example, a Class B continuous-air inflatable has to carry $1,000,000 in liability insurance per occurrence.
Occupancy and supervision: There's no universal occupancy limit. Guides put a 13-by-13 anywhere from 4 to 8 children, so follow the label on the unit you rent. Unless you booked an attendant, an adult from your party supervises the whole time.
Read the wind and weather clause before you pay
Wind and rain are the main reason Halloween rentals get cancelled. The CPSC says wind limits should be no more than 15 to 25 mph, depending on the unit. Its 2015 bulletin says to unload and deflate any inflatable in gusts over 25 mph. Use whichever cutoff is lower: the one in the unit's manual or the one in your contract.
Contract terms vary:
- Bounce On Us and Arizona Bounce Around cancel for wind over 15 mph or a greater than 60% chance of heavy rain. On a normal date they keep 50% as a one-year credit. On a holiday, Bounce On Us keeps the full amount as credit.
- Bounce N Beyond won't set up in heavy rain, lightning, temperatures below 32°F or wind over 20 mph.
- Inflatable Party Magic says that once setup starts, later weather doesn't change what you owe.
- Party Go Round is more generous: you can reschedule or get a full refund if you decide by the night before.
Ask for a rain date when you book, while units are still available.
The safety rules are there for good reason. The CPSC estimates that more than 18,000 bounce-house injuries were treated in emergency rooms in 2018.
If you're already inside two weeks
Halloween 2026 is about three and a half weeks away, so many readers are already in this position. Call the company instead of trusting a website that shows the themed units as gone. Jump Around says requests inside a week should come by phone, because cancellations sometimes free up units, though that isn't guaranteed. Jumper Bee says weekday events and early-October weekends have the best last-minute availability.
Be ready to settle for something other than the pumpkin house:
- Pick a weeknight. Bounce Party of Tampa says weekday and slower-month bookings are sometimes possible, with a limited choice of units.
- Accept a plain unit. Party Go Round says a non-Halloween unit is the practical substitute once the themed inventory is gone. A plain house, a dry combo or a small game often works fine.
- Look ahead. If the Halloween weekend is full, a Thanksgiving-weekend party on November 26 is another option. Party Go Round rents its fall units through November.
The safety rules are the same no matter how late you book: stake the unit, stay within the posted occupancy, keep kids of similar ages together, no flips or wrestling, and an adult watching the whole time.
